Over recent weeks we have been seeing an increasing number of outbreaks of non-COVID-19 acute respiratory infections (including Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and Human Parainfluenza Virus (HPIV) infections) in nurseries/ childcare facilities in the Somerset Locality. Some of which have affected a large number of children within a childcare facility and/or results in children attended the local hospital.
It is very important that the basic infection control measures are scrupulously followed at all times. Area of focus should include practice of good hand and respiratory hygiene, get tested for COVID-19 and isolate accordingly. We recommend symptomatic cases should stay away from the setting for at least 5 days from onset of symptoms (irrespective of causes) to reduce the risk of spreading the infection within the setting.
For those who are tested positive with COVID-19, please follow the latest stay at home guidance for the latest isolation period https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection
